Nethack
An ASCII dungeon crawl that is easy to win...once you know how to play. (The fun's in the learning.) You can play it on your computer alone, but why do that when you can play it on http://nethack.alt.org/? PuTTY is a good Windows client to connect with.
The Nethack Wiki is a great resource for learning the ins and outs of ascension (and not dying, for that matter).
SteveKillen is currently on his first serious attempt at ascension with a Val Dwa Fem Law. Last save: in Sokoban 3a. Fjear! ...yeah, he died. Closest he's been is maybe a level 11 Barbarian who just started his quest. But Nethack must make room for a new hotness:
Minecraft
Works in Linux with the Sun JVM and a short script. Well worth the €9.99 (~$13.50) €14.99, now that it's in beta.
Pics you'll find on Google. But why look at images when you can play it yourself? Seeing a tutorial or two (now on the main Web site) is recommended tho'.

The magical quest game. Is the the one that will get SidheRa into boardgaming? Only time will tell.
FF XII
This PS2 title is meh in the series, but is strongly evocative of FF: Tactics. The license grid is interesting if you use it strategically rather than just building tiny gods. So I'm playing it through using a modified version of the Strict Classes FAQ. In short, I'm using sub-classes (a la FFT) and less restrictive items (usable by anyone, but only the Chemist can use them on others).
My characters:
