Gear

<!> A work in progress. Feel free to add to this. <!>

A note on pack weight: 30 pounds, including water, is a nice goal to shoot for. 40 pounds is heavy, but with a real pack and some determination it's manageable. Consider this when planning what you want to carry for several days in a row.

Gear needed by each of us:

  • Backpack capable of carrying your gear (read: an internal or external framepack)
  • rain equipment (for your pack, tent, and person)
  • Sleeping bag w/ stuff sack
  • Eating vessel & utensils

  • Knife
  • Flashlight (headlamps are useful)
  • Hiking boots
  • Socks (several pairs, cotton inner layer & wool outer layer is best for hiking)

  • water vessels (2L minimum total capacity)

  • first aid kit
  • trail snacks and food you want
  • toiletries
  • clothes
  • insect repellant

Gear needed in common:

  • mealtime food
  • stove & fuel

  • tent(s)

Gear you might enjoy carrying with you:

  • a book
