Alpha 1: The First Game (phil!, vees, ben, emag, cathy, steve)

Mechanics:

  • Cathy dislikes the abandonment rules. At a minimum, it should be made very clear that abandoning territories is on.

Graphics:

  • The lack of visually-defined continents is problematic. (But only for non-Hordes! games.)
  • The filled-number thing seems universally decried, though it does reveal more of the underlying art. I'll chew on ways to better show population but preserve the map. --SteveKillen

  • The border lines are ugly; they should go away, and borders should be intuitively shown on the map--specific access points to the mountainous regions, and the few river crossings.


Ideas for the future:

  • use various races as the player names (Men [possibly divided by nation: Gondor, Rohan, Rangers, ...], Orcs, Uruk-Hai, Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits?).

Mod suggestions:

  • Hordes! (1 bonus army for each country surrounded only by your own units)
  • Team play, from massively multiplayer (e.g., 8 2-person teams) down to two-person regional starts.
