Comment: update; double major?

I'm a B.S. Mathematics major with no declared minors, which will require 19 more classes and two PE classes. | == Spring 2013 Notes == |
Line 3: | Line 3: |
A Classical Greek minor would require three more classes. A Logic and Methodology minor would require one class in addition to Symbolic Logic, which counts as a math class. Also, a Philosophy minor would require two additional classes, one of which could be Ancient Philosophy. | Completed minors: Logic and Methodology, Classical Studies with a Concentration in Greek (after this semester) |

I could easily take 1-3 classes during summers or perhaps online at a community college. Perhaps Chemistry and statistics. That along with what minors I choose will determine when I graduate. With no summer classes: | Skip ENG 101, Orientation, the social science elective (use AP Psych credit), and Introduction to Programming (maybe). I could probably skip the diversity requirement since I took Social Diversity at WTCC. Assume that Advanced Logic can count as a math elective. |
Line 7: | Line 7: |
* BS only: 19 = 5+5+5+4 = 4+4+4+4+3 * LOG: 20 = 5+5+5+5 = 4+4+4+4+4 * GRK: 22 = 5+5+4+4+4 * LOG and GRK: 23 = 5+5+5+4+4 * LOG, GRK and PHI: 25 = 5+5+5+5+5 |
Then: |
Line 13: | Line 9: |
With two summer classes: | * ENG 333 * MA 425 * MA independent study * MA elective * Two science electives * CS elective * Two PE classes |
Line 15: | Line 17: |
* BS only: 17 = 5+4+4+4 * LOG: 18 = 5+5+4+4 * GRK: 20 = 5+5+5+5 = 4+4+4+4+4 * LOG and GRK: 21 = 5+4+4+4+4 * LOG, GRK and PHI: 23 = 5+5+5+4+4 |
If I take two classes during the summer, or if I receive credit by examination for some introductory science classes, I could reasonably graduate at the end of the Fall 2013 semester. |
Line 21: | Line 19: |
I don't actually need to take the following courses: | Also, I'm relatively close to fulfilling the requirements for a B.S. in Philosophy with a concentration in Logic, Representation, and Reasoning. Additional requirements: |
Line 23: | Line 21: |
* --(Introduction to Programming)-- * --(''Perspect Learning'')-- * --(ENG 101)-- (can be waived with portfolio) |
* Early Modern Philosophy * History of Philosophy * Ethics * Philosophy of Science * Three papers |
Line 27: | Line 27: |
=== Required courses === * Comm Sci & Res * Found Advance Math * Intro Discret Math * Chem * Physics Egr Sci II * Statistics * Mod Algebra Majors * Math Analysis I (?) * Theory of Numbers (?) * Symbolic Logic * Appl of Algebra (?) * Abstract Algebra I (?) * Intro to Topology * Graph Theory * Physics elective 1 * Physics elective 2 * CS elective 1 * CS elective 2 * Interdisciplinary elective * ''PE 1'' * ''PE 2'' |
(This assumes some reasonable requirements waivers are granted, such as counting Philosophy of Science as a Philosophy elective and categorizing my Holocaust class from WTCC as an Arts and Letters course.) If I decide to go to grad school and can only start in the fall (which seems to be the case at many schools), it might make sense to take an extra semester at NCSU to complete a double major. |
